This beautiful 1-day movement, traditional cuckoo clock was handcrafted by renowned Black Forest clockmaker, Hurbert Herr. Hubert Herr is known to produce high-quality cuckoo clocks since 1860. Starting in a small workshop and now in its 5th generation, the company, which remains in the hands of the family, has grown to a world-known and leading clock manufacturer of high-value cuckoo clocks. Hubert Herr Clocks attaches great importance to a connection with its region when selecting materials, from the raw material like the wood used and metal up to the fully assembled clock.
Hubert Herr is known for creating and assembling their own movements completely. This cuckoo clock made by Hurbert Herr is a typical Black Forest Clock hours. Black Forest clocks are determined by the materials and hand-carved cases depicting and representing the culture of the region. This means that the essential parts of the clock – from the clock case to the decorative details and mechanical components – were handcrafted exclusively and made from wood sourced locally from the Back Forest region of Germany.
Everything you see is made of wood. This cuckoo clock has intricate and rich wood details made of solid Linden, stained with a light walnut finish. It depicts a charming Chalet Alpine house with balconies and beautiful and little flowers everywhere hanging on the balcony. It also features dancers on the main balcony, a woodpile in front of the house, and a mill wheel. The roof is hand-carved and covered with wooden shingles, and the colorful flowers hanging on the balcony are hand-painted which gives extra color and beauty to the clock.
It is 11.5 inches in height, and 11 inches wide. The four little village dancers twirl and rotate to the music and the automated cuckoo bird animates from behind its door and chimes with its cuckoo sound on the hour. This clock has an extra thick solid wood case, for extra stability and durability, and it has a solid cast-iron ‘pine-cone-shaped’ weights.
Personally, I love the rich and classic wood details as it not only gives a decorative accent but also adds some life and rustic charm to my living room. It makes me smile every time the bird cuckoos, and the villagers spinning and dancing to the melody gives a nice feeling. The cuckoo sounds which are authentic reminded me of the one I used to see and hear from my grandparents’ house when I was a child. Every small detail is incredible. This gem is truly a treasure as they say when you hang a Hubert Herr cuckoo clock on your wall, you hang a piece of the Black Forest’s local history there.
